Holidays in winter....

Holidays in our holiday home. We are located in 9585 Müllnern, a small Carinthian village on Lake Faak which belongs to the municipality of Finkenstein.

Our holiday flats are very large (95m²) and equipped with central heating. Flat 2 has an additional wood-burning stove in the kitchen with a window to the fire and is a romantic thing to do in the cold season when it is snowing outside. A good mulled wine and perhaps a board game and the winter evening becomes an experience. The large flats are also ideal for the children or the dog.

Our large garden invites you to build a snowman or have a snowball fight. If you feel like it, you can also barbecue in winter, put the sledges around the barbecue, make it cosy and have a lot of fun.

During Advent, Villach's Advent market with mulled wine and Lebzelten (gingerbread) for nose and palate, is a treat for the whole family. A slow train runs through Villach and is a fun thing to do for the kids. Villach is very special on New Year's Eve. The main square with its many pubs gets everyone in the mood.

Velden with its casino has a special flair. A highlight of your winter holiday, a visit to the casino (24km). There is also a casino in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) and is also worth a visit (21km).

We are not far away from the winter sports resorts with our holiday home. If you like skiing or cross-country skiing, you'll be there in no time. We have special regions in the Faaker See/Villach area for every winter holidaymaker.

Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, touring, snowshoeing, ice skating, tobogganing or bathing in the Carinthian thermal baths with slide.... There is something for everyone. Indoor riding arenas or even indoor tennis courts are also in our vicinity.

Skiing areas:

There is a lot of skiing fun on the Gerlitzen Alpe with the Kanzelbahn (14km), or at the Dreiländereck (21km). Tip: for tourers and winter hikers the Dobratsch is ideal (9km).

Cross-country skiing trails:

Oberaichwald (8.2km), Villacher Alpen Arena (6.1km), Gerlitze (14km), Dreiländereck (21km), and many more....

Ice skating:

Lakes: Faaker See (6.9km), Aichwaldsee (9.8km), Silbersee (11km).

Ice rinks: Villach ice rink (7.8km), Ossiachersee Steindorf ice rink (23km).

Ice skating rinks (outdoor): Villach Rathausplatz (5.6km), Velden am Wörthersee (covered also in bad weather) (24km).

Our holiday home is located in 9585 Müllner, a small Carinthian village on Lake Faak which belongs to the municipality of Finkenstein.

A small romantic brook (Seebach) flows through Müllnern and also runs along our property. Our garden has several fruit trees that are available for guests to harvest themselves in autumn. Our small brook is also used for a cool foot bath or when a nice barbecue is made in our natural garden, the drinks are cooled in the brook. Sun loungers and a hammock fixed between the apple trees are available free of charge.

For dogs there is a doghouse in the garden in case a dog is looking for a shady or warm place.

The property is fenced in with a privacy fence and gate, so cars and motorbikes are protected and not freely accessible to strangers. The flats are ideal for holiday guests who want to be among themselves, or with children and dogs.

Our house has two floors and consists of three holiday flats. Access to the flats is via an external staircase. For families or groups booking two flats, there is the possibility to connect the flats. There is a connecting staircase (inside) between flat 1 and flat 2.

We are nevertheless very centrally located and only a few minutes away from Lake Faak 6.3km. Lake Ossiach 14km, Lake Wörthersee 23km, Kärntner Therme with 2 outdoor pools and water slide (adventure pool) 2.9km,

In Warmbad/Villach, which is 2.6 km from us, there is a beautiful indoor riding arena, indoor tennis courts, thermal baths, there is also the "Maibachl" (thermal springs) which, during intense rainfall or snowmelt, a warm stream with around 29 degrees (also in winter) flows out and accumulates into a pool. People also like to use it for bathing in the winter months.

Hiking trails start in front of our holiday home, as well as many cycle paths going in different directions.

One of the most beautiful climbing gardens in Austria is the Kanzianiberg - climbing garden which has different levels of difficulty. Also suitable for children and is 4,1km away from us.

Golf course 18 holes (Finkenstein Castle) 2,1km,

For event lovers, there are regular summer performances and concerts at the Finkenstein castle ruins by well-known personalities, which are sure to appeal to all tastes. Distance 6,7km

Furthermore, for flea market lovers there is also a covered flea market (up to 100 exhibitors) in our vicinity (2.9km) which is open every Sunday and public holiday (all year round). Alpe Adria flea market at the TransGourmet car park, Triglavstr.75, 9500 Villach.

For dog lovers, we have the Gail (river) nearby (350m). There is a beautiful cycling and walking path along the river, which goes right next to the river and is many kilometres long. Again and again there are beautiful access points to the water and our pelt-noses can let off steam and enjoy an undisturbed free run. You can explore this route by bike, inline skates, skateboard or even on foot the beautiful Gail meadows with your four-legged friends. A little further on (4km) there are beautiful sandbanks along the Gail to linger on. A great place to swim for humans and dogs and there is even a barbecue area, which is certainly very romantic.

Finally, a few culinary tips that I tried myself.

The steakhouse - Kirchenwirt. Delicious steaks and of course other food. Kirchenplatz 2, Finkenstein (2.1km).

Finkensteiner Nudelfabrik with its market cafe - restaurant in old walls (beautifully restored). Production of Finkensteiner Noodles (noodles in all variations). Sale of pasta, homemade sugi, pesti, oils and spices etc. in the own delicatessen shop adjacent to the market café. The restaurant with its romantic garden offers delicious pasta dishes and homemade cakes. 9585 Müllnern, Warmbaderstr. 34. distance 600m

A hot tip for ice cream lovers. Millonig soft ice cream in Techanting-Florianistr. 32. A dream of an ice cream ! Small country inn with seating garden (seating garden usually full) If you need more than one seat, better reserve. Ice cream also to go, cone ice cream or ice cream in boxes. (The boxes are available at Millonig) and feast at home. Distance 1.7 km.

If you are heading in the direction of Villach, we recommend the traditional Gasthof Genottehöhe. It is elevated above Villach and the view over Villach is fantastic. There is a large seating garden where a Sunday morning pint is held in summer. The portions are very large and deliciously cooked. Genottehöhe 40, 9504 Villach/Warmbad. Distance 5,2km.

Flat 1 with 95 m² is located on the second floor with separate access (outside stairs) and has a small balcony with table and armchair.

For large families or a larger group, flats 1 and 2 (1st floor) could be combined as there is a connecting staircase inside.
