The Residence at Chlumeckyplatz in Bad Aussee
For over 500 years, notable personalities have resided in the Hoferhaus at Chlumeckyplatz No. 2. The oldest frescoes on a middle-class house in Central Europe make it historically significant.
But that's not all: here you are in the center of the traditional Ausseerland-Salzkammergut. You will swim in lakes with drinking water quality, explore the panoramic roads to the local mountain Loser in summer and its family-friendly ski area in winter. You will stay not far from the fairytale UNESCO World Heritage town of Hallstatt and enjoy the typical cozy lifestyle of this unique region.
In the Hoferhaus there are five beautiful apartments, with modern furnishings that immediately gives you the feeling of home.
The history of the Hoferhaus
Historic Hoferhaus Bad Aussee In 1511 Emperor Maximilian stayed with the then salt administrator in this late Gothic building. Around 1520 the house was decorated with beautiful frescoes. They show St. Sebastian, Anna selbdritt (the representation of St. Anna with her daughter Maria and the baby Jesus) and St. Florian. They are the oldest frescoes in Central Europe on a civil house. On the 1st floor, interior frescoes show scenes from the story of Samson.
The Hoferhaus has been in the possession of the family for a good 200 years, which has not only taken care of the preservation of this historically significant building monument, but also housed an important citizen of the town of Bad Aussee in the person of Obermedizinalrat Dr. Konrad Hofer. OMR Dr. Hofer was co-founder of the Realgymnasium, an outstanding climber and, together with his uncle, responsible for the exploitation of the Aussee sulfate springs of the spa town. His wife Gertrude Hofer, the good soul of the house, was a well-known painter and journalist beyond the borders of Ausseerland, who was able to attract many artists, actors and intellectuals to the Hoferhaus. There is hardly a house in Bad Aussee that does not have a watercolor by her.
We will be happy to provide you with information about a stay at the Hofer House in Bad Aussee by telephone or e-mail!
