It is created thanks to the underground water coming down from Lefka Ori and is trapped by the impervious rocks within the natural basin.Lake Kournas was known in antiquity as Lake Koressia. Its current name comes from the Arabic language and means bathtub and lake. The lake’s dark waters impress not only the visitors but also the natives, thus there is the belief that it is bottomless.
